Assessment of all aspects of the coating process

Omega PLC was experiencing finish quality and adhesion issues with their water-based coating system, furthermore, the paint also required the addition of a highly hazardous crosslinker. This very sensitive additive required exceptionally careful mixing into the paint, otherwise, the hazardous crosslinker would react incorrectly with the paint, rendering it unusable.

As a result of this highly specific mixing process, there was a lot of wasted time to ensure the mixing process was correct, it additionally resulted in a high level of paint wastage that could be minimised to cut costs.

From the initial analysis, Kortec approached the situation by introducing a low-hazard adhesion promoter. Alongside this, Kortec supported the implementation of a single pack that provides the same high level of durability, without the use of a hazardous/complex crosslinker.

In addition, Kortec supported Omega PLC with the trial of a panel pre-heat system to optimise their systems and processes to improve the overall company productivity.

Structured assessment on a weekly basis 

As a result of the implementation, Omega PLC was able to eliminate all hazardous carcinogenic materials and removed the requirement for mixing operatives.

This additionally resolved the finish and adhesion issues that Omega PLC was initially dealing with and Kortec helped to secure board approval for the pre-heat system to ensure consistent curing results all year round, regardless of ambient board storage temperatures.
