Case Study: Fine Rooms & Interiors

"By working with Kortec, we were able to move away from our traditional solvent-based paint, whilst maintaining our finish quality"

Analysis

Assessing all aspects of the coatings process

Fine Rooms had historically used a 2-pack AC Solvent based paint for 10+ years and had always been very reluctant to change this due to the finish they were achieving. Due to their high-end work and clientele, Fine Rooms were aware of water-based coatings and the market pressure to move over. However any material they had trialled caused them issues with their finish, particularly when it came to raising the fibres of their MDF.

Implementation

Looking at our range to identify the optimum solution

At Kortec we have a lot of experience working with water-based materials in conjunction with a number of different substrates. This has included working with specific products to overcome certain issues that tend to crop up repeatedly - one of the main points addressed is fibre-raising. This is why we have developed a water-based sealer with a very high resin content, to act as a barrier between the substrate and primer. This allows for a full single-pack water-based system from start to finish, whilst eradicating the issue of fibre-raising.

Ongoing Client Benefits

Full reliable water-based system for the future

After working with the client on product trials, carrying out various visual and durability checks, we were able to formulate a system that worked for Fine Rooms and their clients. We offered extensive technical support, covering how to get the best out of the products in both summer and winter, when temperatures and humidity in spray shops can fluctuate dramatically.

This led to Fine Rooms moving their entire finishing process over to water-based products throughout, and with that came a number of marketing benefits they could communicate to their clients. It also led to a dramatic drop in insurance costs and product waste by moving to a single pack, non-flammable product range.

Top Obstacles to Consistent Colour
10 Jan, 2024
Consistent paint colour is essential for virtually every painting process – the two main scenarios are: mass production where items from different runs may end up being mixed in a final unit e.g. kitchen doors and bespoke production where the paint requirement can be hard to estimate (or the original size is extended) meaning extra paint is required.
