Inside Kortec
Goodbye Jamie!
Jamie has been a part of our operations team for over a year now. At Kortec he has been responsible for ensuring quality control on all of our standard matched colour production.
He also liaised closely with the client care team and production team to ensure that all client orders are manufactured as planned.
It has been a pleasure having Jamie as a part of our team and he will be sadly missed. However, we are excited for him to start his next chapter studying higher education Science!
Congratulations Spencer!
Over the past couple of years Spencer has been working on a lot of large IT/systems projects for Kortec, which are key to our level of service and efficiency. These are largely complete now and we have external partners in place for future requirements, so we have been discussing a new focus for him - moving to our sister company Markham Global as a Project Coordinator, to help deliver the fast growth we are seeing there.
We're pleased to say that Spencer has accepted this role and will be making the move with immediate effect. We look forward to watching Spencer succeed in his new role!
Recruiting For New Apprentices
As you may be aware from our February Newsletter Kortec has been focused for some time on apprenticeship schemes – we are glad to announce we are now recruiting for 2 new Production/Quality Control apprentices to join our team. We are excited to see what new viewpoints they will bring to Kortec to help drive us forward under the Advance 2023 theme!
New IWATA PUMP Demonstrations
As you may be aware we have been collaborating with IWATA for the supply of Spray equipment since earlier this year. This month our Business Development team have had an exciting opportunity to test out the new IWATA pump, with IWATA professionals Jason and Gavin helping them on the best way to achieve optimum performance with this product. We have seen the fantastic results and benefits from this new 30:1 pump - the main two being:
- 30:1 ratio – optimum for the medium viscosity water-based and solvent-based the majority of our clients use. A great package offering an ideal fluid output of 25ml/cycle with 100 cycles per minute – enabling a greatly improved transfer efficiency over conventional spraying with a product transfer rate of up to 80%.
- Unique adjustable fan pattern - this pump allows control of the fan pattern by up to 50% without the need to change the tip, eliminating the need for extra costly tips to be brought particularly for those switching between large surfaces (doors etc) to smaller surfaces (door frames, architraves etc).
New Equipment Partner
We are pleased to say that we will be expanding our overall solutions range with our new equipment partner Festool.
The first stage of our expansion includes the Festool sander which is a state-of-the-art piece of equipment this will allow us to optimise our preparation phase. As well as allowing us to carry out various techniques including edge, flat and profile sanding. This sander offers different settings for a range of substrates and material and has an advanced extraction which allows us to stay on top of our health and safety.
Kortec Open Day Coming Soon
Communicate & Learn!! That’s what we hope to do with our first industry-specific networking event - Furniture + (scheduled for 11th July 2023 from 09:00 until 15:00).
This will be a great opportunity for all involved in the furniture-manufacture market to:
- Network with major industry players.
- Learn about developments from key industry bodies.
- Talk to leading suppliers.
- Discuss the present and future state of the market.
- Meet the full Kortec team.
As we are covering all elements of the furniture-manufacturing process that have a connection to coating, there will also be attendees from:
- Cefla – with demonstrations on their premium automatic spraying and drying/during equipment.
- Anest Iwata – Showcasing their industry-leading spray guns and pumps.
- Festool - market-leading surface sanding/preparation equipment.
The event will be an informal day with most of the content being covered several times through the day, so feel free to attend for as long or short a period that suits you (there will be a free Hog Roast available through the middle part of the day as well!)

New isocyanate regulations – does this affect you?
As you may be aware from recent posts the European Commission has adopted a regulation amending Annex XVII of REACH to restrict di-isocyanates on the EU market which will take effect after the 24th of August 2023. This requires that all users of these products are formally trained on their safe use.
Training courses have been developed by the manufacturers to meet this requirement - these courses can be found on https://lnkd.in/eMV6nrjX Please be aware that the training requirement also applies to end users such as yourselves and needs renewing every 5 years.

Paint Industry News
The British Coatings Federation has recently released new data which shows paint and coatings manufacturers are continuing to be hit from all sides with the raw material cost increases. As you are aware Kortec have recently implemented a price increase that is intended to account for these pressures, so we have no plans for further increases but wanted to keep you informed of the general state of the market.
