It's a wrap!
Last week saw the end of our highly anticipated debut into the Materials & Finishes Show, at the NEC, Birmingham.
It was such an amazing event and great to finally get it ‘over the line’ after months of planning and we were delighted to have so many interesting and meaningful conversations with our existing customers, as well as having the opportunity to meet so many new contacts and industry peers.
The days were long, but definitely worthwhile, allowing us the time to further understand the challenges currently being faced in the wider industry, along with the chance to be face to face with old and new friends, discussing their plans and ambitions within our sector.
We will certainly be looking forward to exhibiting there again in 2026!
Stain Training
This month’s in-house training has been designed to train the team on the process of stain matching for our bespoke wood stains.
In order for us to create you the best possible match, it’s important to understand the information we require in order to work our magic.
- The substrate being used – It is easier for us to create the desired stain effect if a substrate is supplied, this way we are truly matching ‘like for like.’
- Your preparation process – By informing the team of how your substrate is prepared such as “Sanded with 240 grit sandpaper”, this supports our matching team as absorption rates of lacquers are dependent on how closed the grain is. For us to get the best result we will always request a sample from you.
- Your Application Method – An example of application method could be using the spray on rag off method. The reason we need this information is because the results from a stain differ when applied even slightly differently.
- Do you use Lacquer? – If a lacquer is going to be used on top of the stain, we need to know which lacquer you will be using, as different lacquers will always affect the finished colour/effect. If the sample supplied is unfinished, it is vital we know if you want the stain to look like the sample before lacquer or after.
- Sample origin – If the sample is a digitally produced image, which is often the case with laminates, these are not always possible to achieve. Also, if the grain pattern is completely different on the substrate to the sample you may also get a very different effect even if the colour is the same.

Paint Industry News
This month we want to bring attention to an article we wrote at Kortec a little while ago. Our research at the recent Materials & Finishes Show has highlighted the fact that this is still a subject at the front of peoples minds and that many in our industry are still in the process of ‘weighing up’ exactly what’s involved in the transition from solvent-based to water-based paints, in a sea of what can sometimes be confusing information.
In this article we try and break down the process and guide you through this important transition.
