Finding a fire-rated lacquer system suitable for the specification and tight production.
Analysis
Investigating the specification required…
From the analysis stage conducted by Kortec it became apparent that our client Bespoke Building & Joinery were working on projects requiring a Class 1 Spread of Flame Specification. Therefore the requirement was high volume, fast turnaround, and the need for an ‘ultra’ clear finish - the client had previously been put off by some water-based products due to poor finishes from the ones that they had previously trialled.
Our client had to meet the required fire-rated specification, but they were looking for a system that would help provide efficiency within their production.
Implementation
We assessed which system would meet their criteria specification, as well as allowing them fast throughput through the spray shop.
After reviewing the situation it was clear that our 3-coat clear Polyurethane system was the right product to tick all relevant criteria. The 2:1 mixing ratio meant for a very fast through cure, allowing the product to be flipped and re-sprayed within the same day. The clarity provided that of a ‘standard furniture’ finish, meaning the client didn’t have to sacrifice finish for performance. With the correct procedure and applying the film weights recommended by the TDS, the client was able to achieve their required specification throughout.
Ongoing Benefits
Increased efficiency within the sprayshop/finishing department
Moving forward, the client was able to continue to offer a full clear system to the ongoing required specification. They were also able to diversify their product offering with our fully pigmented system to any colour, also providing the same accreditation.
